Day 4
A little less tired today, Rob made great strides with his mobility. To this point, he was not allowed to get up and move without the assistance of a nurse (yup – they even put an alarm pad under him that went off if he got up). He had also been using a walker when he did his small laps around the unit. But after today, the walker is gone, he has been cleared to walk around the floor on his own. He even went up and down 9 steps.
The challenges remaining for him are to breathe in deeper (important to prevent pneumonia) and for his blood levels to come up a bit more.
As far as coming home, the gating factor will be getting his Coumadin ramped up and his blood to the right “thinness”. That will likely take until the end of the week. Luckily he isn’t too stir crazy yet, so hopefully it won’t feel like an eternity to him.
