Day 1 So Far (2:20pm)
I hate to brag, but my guy can take a lickin’ and keep tickin. Maybe the nurses in the CTU say this to all the guys, but they told me he is the rockstar of CTU – ready to start climbing that hill already.
So far he has gotten out of bed and into a chair, had a plate of eggs, called his Mom and, of course, exhibited his sense of humor numerous times.
Understandably, he has a lot of pain, but they are managing it well. I know he’s probably a tad loopy for his taste (at least without the benefit of some golf and a cigar), but for the next couple days I would rather see him loopy and resting rather than trying to gut out the pain. Things will get easier pain-wise once his chest tubes are out. And I will try to limit the number of legal docs I force him to sign over the weekend. Maybe the major purchases too, but we’ll see.
Today will probably be 85% sleep, 15% everything else, since even little things wipe him out. But my understanding is that he will get out of CTU and into the step-down unit later today, so that’s encouraging.
As I write this, I have been dispatched to the waiting room so some tube/s can be removed from his neck. I think it/they were the one/s for the heart and lung machine, but don’t quote me. Either way, I am sure every tube removed is a step in the right direction.
